Silence, Resistance and the Power of Rituals

Silence, Resistance and the Power of Rituals

I've never completely unplugged with no access to texts, emails, Spotify, Instagram OR Netflix for more than a day. It's hard to believe I survived a Complete Urban Detox for an entire week. Aside from an emergency number provided to my family, I was all ALONE. I had some initial reservations and anxiety about detaching from work, unable to answer client communications. I did everything possible to inform clients via email, social media and auto-responders. Modern technology makes booking online a breeze so I really had no excuse other than to just do damn the thing. But I mean... Who would I be without the reassuring pings and dings telling me I am needed and important???

Rising Out of the Ashes

Rising Out of the Ashes

Do you think everything happens for a reason? I do. I've always believed in a celestial force that is rooting for me, nudging me towards my life's purpose, providing endless growth opportunities, chance meetings and auspicious guidance. If we see all life's events as lessons, even the failures, the heartbreaks and illnesses will inevitably unveil deeper meanings and hidden clues.

In the pursuit of excellence, we willingly endure the price of transformation, while at times we cling to the familiar, kicking and screaming as change becomes inevitable. No matter how we get there, it's a magical moment when life seems to fall into place and evidence of divine intervention becomes clear.

Nutrition for Stress

Nutrition for Stress

Stress is being called The Black Plague of modern times and is the leading cause illnesses, depression and anxiety. Stress is a simple fact of life for most of us, and can sometimes serve as motivation to meet challenges or goals. But when gone undetected and unmanaged,  constant daily stressors such as long commutes stuck in traffic, relationship/family problems, financial or work pressures can wreak havoc in our lives, eventually stealing our joy, health and beauty.

The “fight or flight response” we have while under stress is our body’s natural survival mechanism to a perceived threat.  Today’s stressors don’t commonly involve live-or-die situations like our ancestors faced.  Unfortunately, our body doesn't know the difference between "perceived" and  "real life" threats.  When we are in a continual state of  chronic stress, our immune system is overtaxed and depleted making us susceptible to premature aging, a plethora health issues and ultimately a shortened life span. Sadly and all too often, coping with modern day stress involves self medicating with drugs or alcohol, comfort foods, watching hours of mind numbing TV.
